Amritsar International Airport also known as Raja Sansi International Airport . It is located near the village Raja Sansi and 11 Km. North West from the city of Amritsar . It serves not only the city of Amritsar but also the greater Punjab area.
The airport authority of India has decided an expansion program for Amritsar International Airport to put it in a league with the top international airports in the country. Work has already begun on the phase II to give the airport a new look, with more passenger facilities and increased security features. The expansion program covers new arrival and departure terminal building. The total area of terminal building will be increased to 41,000 sq. mtrs. which will be more than double of the existing area. Its completion greatly increases the efficiency and capacity of all international and domestic arrivals as well as departures.

The structure of the airport comprises of main building and the space frame roof structure. In the structure, special efforts were taken to allow utmost daylight inside, which creates a specious and comfortable environment for the passengers. The space frame with curve formation gives the structure an aesthetic look, which is supported by flare arm spaced 15-20 mtrs. on center. To provide curvature shape specially curved pipes are used in the space frame, starting from ground of air side and ends at city side. The space frame structure of the terminal gives the entire airport a visual cohesiveness and an iconic sense of identity.
Technical facts
Tekla Structures is used for modeling and detailing of the entire structure. Tekla Structures made it easy to model this complex structure. About 36,000 members were used to model the structure, which took almost 2
mo ths for modeling.
High end configured pc's were used to speed up the modeling procedure, due to the number of cuts in the pipe, which made the model too heavy.
Due to the irregular shape end cutting on the pipe, it was very difficult to the dimensions in 2D drawings, hence for easier and faster fabrication open development at both end of the pipes were provided.
To easily and clearly visualize the assembly shape, 3D view along with all required 2D views were provided on the assembly drawings.
