Ichiban Honda is an office building located in the heart of Mumbai, the business capital of India. The structural steel fabricator is Pratibha Industries Ltd., Mumbai. Architect is S. Kamal Malik and the Structural Engineer is WSP, Delhi.

Techflow has appointed as a connection design and detailing consultant for this project. Connection designing for this project was a quiet tough task because of the unsymmetrical shape and huge cantilever area of building. The challenging factor of the building was designing and detailing of the skinn truss because of its shape, size and geometry.

Because of the Complex Structure and huge Cantilever area it was difficult to erect the building floor wise, hence Techflow proposed to erect the core area at middle of building till terrace level. Accordingly the team plans the erection methodology and divided the building in to 7 sequences.

Skinn Truss geometry and layout was very much difficult to execute from 2D drawings. Hence the team has decided to derive the basic skinn truss locating dimensions from the REVITT model prepared by an architect.

The another major task in this project is the Directors Cabin above the terrace level which is almost a Cantilever more than 20 meters, which is having a complex connections to design, detail and erect. As the client want to see this building; a purely structural steel building, and the requirement is there should be no fall sealing's in the entire structure. So, while designing the connections, the designing team always careful about aesthetic look of the building.

Looking at the complexity, Techflow has assigned there highly professional staff for designing and detailing. It takes three months for the connection designing and 6 plan months for the detailing of entire project.

I would like this opportunity to acknowledge Mr. Rahul Katyal, Mr. Chavan and Mr. Mitra of Pratibha Industries Ltd. for their cooperation and diligence during this project, also Mr. Bob Lake of WSP India for his commitment and dedication. I also want to thanks Mr. Kamal Malik, Mr. Ketan Chaoudhary and Mr. Jay for their kind cooperation throughout the project.
