Rabale railway station located in the planned city of Navi Mumbai, is an extension of the Mumbai Suburban Rail Network. This new project line was proposed to offer connectivity between Thane and Navi Mumbai. It covers an area of 18.5 Kms. between Thane and Vashi (Navi Mumbai).
Rabale station has got a cutting edge and unique master piece of architectural design. The station do not ornate Victorian arches or cobble-stone pathways, their futuristic design, form, and use of materials is enough to turn heads and make one pause in wonder.

The Rabale Railway Station uses a combination of structural steel with specially designed joints between the materials to create the structure for the enclosure. The structure is made up of plate fabricated and rolled sections (hollow steel sections).
The station uses daylight as the primary source of lighting. The size and triangular shape angles of skylight trusses plays significant role in the roof framing which brings sunlight down the central part of the platform throughout the day.

Columns
The unique 'X' shape columns are adding an aesthetic look to the structure. These columns made up of plate fabricated sections due to non availability of standard rolled section. But these 'X' shape columns makes connections unconventional.

Trusses
Instead of putting perpendicular trusses to track, they are running parallel to platform. This makes architect to take long span trusses which avoid conjunction on platform for passengers. These trusses are running over three supports each are 30 meters apart. The bottom of truss is located 17 meters from the ground.
The triangular shape of truss comprises of bottom and top chord. The bottom chord of SHS 200x200x8 at 3.6 meters apart. The bottom chord is placed with face inclined. While the top chord of truss is a pipe with diameter 324x8 at height of 2.4 meters from bottom chord. The diagonal members of SHS 100x100x6.3 running between both the chords. This makes irregular cutting edge. While detailing the part of each diagonal member we have to plot it on a graph so that contractor can make the template from it.

Canopy
Two plate fabricated canopies at entrance is made with the help of beams and girders. These are perpendicular to longitudinal trusses. Canopy is in triangular shape at bottom chord with big plate girders, between girders there is horizontal cross HSS brace and at top chord HSS and at canopy along ridge there is junctions of four rafters get together and connected to ridge HSS for this connection used HSS and plates. Due to multiple members connected at one point in this structure typically we detailed the connections as a one assembly. . This could not be possible without Tekla Structures.
